Module 4 of 12
Lesson 4: Metadata Architecture
Translate research into App Store metadata that is clean, compliant, and strategically layered.
Why this module exists
Metadata is one connected system, not four independent fields.
The four searchable surfaces — name, subtitle, keyword field, and supporting fields — interact whether the team plans for it or not. The lessons in this module take them one at a time but treat them as a single architecture. Start with the app name, since it is the only field where a wrong choice quietly costs installs for years, then move into the subtitle, the field most teams underuse.
The keyword field lesson and the compliance lesson close the module. The keyword field rewards compression: words already present in the name and subtitle are wasted slots, and the field is most valuable when it adds reach the visible fields cannot. The compliance lesson is short on purpose; it exists to keep avoidable rejections out of release week.
Lessons
Lesson 4.1
Writing the App Name
Use brand-first, hybrid, or utility-first naming models depending on the product and category reality.
Lesson 4.2
Writing the Subtitle
Use the subtitle to sharpen the promise and add precision without wasting character space.
Lesson 4.3
Building the Keyword Field
Use the 100-character keyword field to expand search coverage efficiently without duplicating visible metadata.
Lesson 4.4
Metadata Compliance and Anti-Spam Rules
Understand how irrelevant or trademarked terms, duplication, and aggressive stuffing create risk inside App Store metadata.
Key insights
Repetition across app name and subtitle often wastes inventory unless there is a very strong branding reason.
A strong subtitle acts like a precision layer, not a second title.
Metadata improves when each field has a distinct job.
Apply this module
The lessons above are written to be useful in order, but the work compounds when each one ends with a small concrete output: a written decision, a renamed field, a new entry in the keyword bank. Use the prompts below as the bare minimum the team should leave this module with.
Write the app name.
Write the subtitle.
Build the keyword field.
Check compliance and anti-spam risks.
