Module 6 of 12
Lesson 6: Localization and Market Expansion
Teach students how to move from literal translation to market-specific App Store growth strategy.
Why this module exists
Localization is the most under-resourced lever in App Store growth.
Most apps that translate metadata still treat localization as a translation pass. The pages that win in new markets do not. Module 6 starts by separating localization from translation, then turns the distinction into a real workflow: locale-specific keyword strategy, creative localization, and the question of sequencing new markets responsibly.
Localization decisions interact with portfolio strategy as well. Teams running multiple apps eventually face the question of how the publisher identity travels across markets, which Module 12 picks back up in the portfolio and brand strategy lesson. Read this module as the foundation for that later conversation.
Lessons
Lesson 6.1
Localization vs Translation
Learn why direct translation underperforms and how to adapt message architecture to a market instead.
Lesson 6.2
Locale-Specific Keyword Strategy
Rebuild keyword strategy from native intent instead of extending an English keyword bank globally.
Lesson 6.3
Creative Localization
Adapt screenshots, examples, tone, and proof so the page feels built for the local market.
Lesson 6.4
Expansion Sequencing
Decide which markets to tackle first and how to scale App Store localization without operational chaos.
Key insights
The biggest localization mistake is translating the English keyword strategy instead of rebuilding it from native intent.
Localization should change examples, benefits, proof language, and screenshot emphasis, not only text strings.
Apply this module
The lessons above are written to be useful in order, but the work compounds when each one ends with a small concrete output: a written decision, a renamed field, a new entry in the keyword bank. Use the prompts below as the bare minimum the team should leave this module with.
Separate localization from translation.
Build locale-specific keyword logic.
Localize creatives, not only text.
Choose market expansion order deliberately.
